Located at 1101 Geary Blvd in the diverse cityscape of San Francisco, Tommy's Joynt is more than just a restaurant; it encapsulates the spirit of classic American comfort food in a casual, no-frills setting. Here, the atmosphere is undeniably grungy yet charming, reminiscent of a bygone era where the quality of food and the authenticity of experience reign supreme.

This beloved eatery is renowned for its impressive selection of hand-carved meats, featuring offerings like the Corned Beef & Cabbage, which presents a hearty combination of tender corned beef alongside boiled carrots and potatoes—a traditional dish that warms both body and soul, priced at just $27.10. For those looking for a lighter yet equally satisfying option, the Dinner Plate Slim showcases a 5oz serving of freshly sliced BBQ brisket, a crowd favorite, paired with two delectable sides and freshly baked bread for $20.35.

The menu is extensive and thoughtfully curated, offering something for everyone—whether you’re leaning towards a HofBrau Sandwich or experiencing sides that are equally compelling, like Hickory Baked Beans and Mashed Potatoes, each priced at $5.25. The thoughtfully prepared sweet potato yams, dubbed Sweet Potato Candies, are a delightful holiday special that beckons for a place on your plate.

Even the drink options add to the nostalgic charm, featuring classic sodas like IBC Root Beer and Coke to quench your thirst after indulging in hearty meats. Prices are incredibly reasonable, making a visit not just an indulgence, but an experience that doesn’t break the bank—two people can easily dine for under $50.

Tommy's Joynt is a true neighborhood gem, as reflected in customer reviews. Many patrons appreciate its authentic character and delicious offerings. One customer notes, “It’s a classic S.F. joint, with a hot plate of healthy food and other options,” while another highlights its charm, stating it’s “a meat-centric menu, so I wouldn't recommend it for vegetarians.” The vibe, described as “old, gritty, and good,” is perfect for those who appreciate a genuine dining experience that evokes a sense of history.

While the decor may exude a vintage feel, what stands out most is the incredible flavors and affordable prices. Satisfied diners rave about the pastrami sandwich, the excellent green beans, and the homemade gravy that deftly enhances the mashed potatoes. Whether you're dining solo or with friends, the lively atmosphere at Tommy's Joynt invites you to sit back, dig in, and savor each juicy mouthful.

In a city filled with culinary choices, Tommy's Joynt certainly holds its ground as a must-visit destination for food lovers. It’s a place where you not only enjoy a fulfilling meal but also immerse yourself in the unique character of San Francisco's restaurant scene.

For what it is, 5 stars. It’s a classic S.F. joint, with a hot plate of healthy food and other options You can walk through the buffet, see and choose from 5 or so meats, combine it with mashed potatoes and or green beans, salad or baked beans, and a sourdough or soft roll; large plate is 18, and small is 13.50. It's a big plate of food, a whole and complete meal, for less than $20. But of course we tip so it's a bit more than that. You order at the buffet and pay there, get your food on a tray and seat yourself. This is an old school diner and bar combo, and it looks it. Cozy.

This is a neighborhood gem. They really have the meats! You can choose if you want a meal, sandwich, how much meat, sides, and fixings. This is meat centric, so I wouldn't recommend it for vegetarians. They have very reasonable prices for the quality of food. The place may seem "divish," but for me, it was more charm of times that have passed. Some may say it needs to be remodeled, I think it should stay the same. The staff was very friendly. At a table next to us was a woman who seemed to be homeless. She had a cart full of her belongings next to her table. Despite this, staff sreved her and were kind to her. Many businesses would not have served her. They acknowledged she was a patron and treated her just like anybody else. This shows their true kindness.

This is a grungy dive in a grungy part of the city, but if you love food and atmosphere, you need to visit at least once. I got the slim plate with brisket and mashed potatoes, baked beans, and a roll. The first bite of the brisket was amazing - great flavor and tenderness - but it was pretty fatty. The mashed potatoes were good, however the baked beans were undercooked and not well-flavored. The roll was obviously not freshly made. My friend got the brisket sandwich on sourdough and cole slaw and he said both were great. It was the late afternoon and I had a long drive so I did not visit the bar. It was $36.00 for both of us, which is a great price for a late lunch for two in the city. The bathrooms are upstairs at the top of a very narrow, steep staircase, so if you're disabled, you will likely not be able to access them. If you are going for beef and beer, I'd say give it a shot. However, it does look like it hasn't been cleaned or renovated since the 1906 earthquake, and while not visibly dirty inside, it was grungy and run-down. It's also pretty small inside, 4 booths, maybe 15 tables, plus the bar, so it's tight quarters.

I love this joint!! I love the go to the counter and get what you want freshly sliced and delicious . I am a sucker for Thanksgiving dinner and this place delivers deliciously. You have to ask for cranberry sauce but I can forgive that. The stuffing is delicious but I don't care for the texture I like mine less wet. The gravy is divine mashed potatoes are real. The guys behind the counter are great and seem to be used to people not knowing what to order because it all looks so good . The bartenders were great and made excellent suggestions. I have been here multiple times during my visit to San Francisco. Do not miss out on this joint! Get a filling meal at a reasonable price and make sure you do not skip those house made pickles . I am not a pickle guy but these were exceptional. The charm of this place oozes old school and a no nonsense way of doing things. If you have read this review thank you. You have been great I have been Mike C!!

Got my fill of Corned beef and pastrami while I was in SF. I just took it back to my room but the bar looked pretty cozy to spend some time at night. Super well spiced and tasty!

The food was fantastic. We ordered beef brisket (a bit fatty), mashed potatoes, green bean veggies, mac salad and a roll. I do like the grunge vintage atmosphere. My only gripe was the rolls and butter being cold, and when I went to use the ladies' restroom to do just a short tinkle...tried to flush but it didn't flush the first time so the 2nd time tried to hold down the handle and it started overflowing with water rushing out of the bottom of the toilet. Yikes!

WHAT A JOINT!!!! Love this place. Its old, gritty and good like I like it. The pastrami is fantastic and the green beans are outstanding. This is a stand up order and seat yourself bar that is a staple to San Fran. They do it right and it is super affordable….two can eat for under $50 without a problem. Its old school with simply spectacular MEATS!!!!!! Its worth the walk.

3.3/5 for the food. Got the pastrami sandwich on a wheat bread. The restaurant is pretty old and it’s pretty confusing on what to order. The price is decent but I think the food was average and nothing special. Reminds me of langers in LA for the vibes but less cleaner. The old folks at the counter were pretty nice though
